Private Pilot Licence
The Private Pilot course is composed of two parts, the ground school and practical training. We endeavour to have two courses each year, in the spring and in autumn. Our first ground school began on the 20th of October and is conducted as an evening course.
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
The practical element of the Private Pilot course may be completed in conjunction with the ground school or separately. However, for the purpose of efficiency, we do recommend them being taken at the same time.
The minimum flight hours to complete the Private Pilot course is 45 hours. It is however targeted to send most students to the final test with 55-65 hours.
The endorsement of flying an aircraft for the first time as the sole occupant is the first challenge to the PPL student. The Student Pilot Certificate, or SOLO, is usually achieved within the first 15 hours of training. Once successful, the student is authorised to plan and carry out his/her training flights alone with supervision of the flight instructor. With the first obstacle behind you, you are trusted to safely conduct your own practice flights where you are the captain of the airplane, a truly extraordinary feeling.
Having passed the theoretical and practical test you will be issued a Private Pilot License, an authorisation to fly under visual conditions and with passengers anywhere in the country.
There are countless examples of the efficiency and practicality of aviation, but this is all surpassed by the pure joy of flying an aeroplane. It enables you not only to see more in a short space of time but also allows you a longer at your destination.
If a Private Pilot wishes to increase his privileges as a pilot he may elect to take the next logical step in the process of becoming a professional pilot, the instrument rating. With an instrument rating, the limitation of flying under visual rules is not longer compulsory and flying inside the clouds becomes the next challenge to prevail.
