Educational offers at Keilir
School of Energy and Technology
In collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Iceland, Keilir's School of Energy- and Technology offers a interdisciplinary BSc degree of Energetic and Mechatronics. Student's vocational practises and researches take place in Keilir's first class laboratory. Emphasis is placed on the education of independent students with great analysing abilities, know-how and the skills to create and develop new technology. The schools aim is to graduate first class specialist who are sought-after of the domestic- as well as international engineering industry.
Aviation Academy
Keilir's Aviation Academy offers diverse aviation related studies such as: private- or professional flight training,Flight Instructor, Air Traffic Controller, Cabin Crew initial and type rating training. Emphasis is placed on advanced teaching-methods and the teaching environment since the school´s location offers unique opportunities and creates excellent environment for Aviation related studies.
The teaching is performed on a brand new high-technical Diamond DA20, DA40 and DA42 aircraft.
School of Health and Education
Keilir's School of Health and Education aims to develop and provide outstanding education in the field of health, soundness, sports and pedagogy. Currently there are courses in ÍAK Personal Training and Preliminary studies for unskilled Kindergarten employees (Leikskólabrú) at the School. Student's facilities for studying and exercising are excellent, teaching and training takes place in the new building of keilir´s Sports Academy.
School of Creative Industries
The School of Creative Industries connects arts and entrepreneurship in a dynamic whirlpool of creative industries. The aim is to educate students who use their imagination for further development of the community. Creative industries are originated in the individual's talents for creativity and offer opportunities of job creation and capital income as ideas are utilised and lead to all kind of production. The School of Creative Industries offers education for entrepreneurs in association with the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at the University of Iceland (Verkfræði- og náttúruvísindasvið Háskóla Íslands) and the Innovation Center of Iceland.
Preliminary Studies (Háskólabrú)
In collaboration with the University of Iceland keilir offers a program of Preliminary Studies for adults. The main objective is to prepare students, who do not fullfill admission qualification, with the knowledge and competence necessary for further studies at university level. Completion of studies in the Department of Preliminary Studies prepares the student for admittance to most Universities in Iceland pursuing to a contract between Keilir, The University of Iceland and the Ministry of Education. The aim is to prepear student for challenging studies at universities in Iceland as well as abroad. The department offers the possibility of distance lerning as well as traditional learning.
Distance Learning Program
At Keilir, special effort is put into the quality of the Distance Learning Program. All lectures are recorded and placed on the school's internet system where the students can watch them whenever and wherever they want and as often as they want.
The teaching is planned as a modular system. Each subject begins with a local workshop lasting from Friday to Saturday. Thereafter students keep contact with teachers and co-students through the schools internet page. Students are offered low-cost acommodation at Keilir's Campus Hotel when they ar required to attend workshops.
